Charis White Funeral Celebrant

When someone you love dies, finding the right words can feel overwhelming. As a funeral celebrant in Melbourne, I help families create a funeral, memorial or celebration of life that feels personal, honest and true to the person being remembered.

With more than 17 years of celebrancy experience, I bring calm guidance, careful listening and genuine compassion to every family. I take the time to understand the life, character, relationships and stories of your loved one, then shape those memories into a meaningful service that brings people together.

A personal funeral service that reflects their life

No two people are the same, so no two funeral services should feel the same. A meaningful ceremony can include warmth, humour, music, readings, cultural traditions, quiet reflection and the stories that family and friends will always remember.

I work closely with you to create the tone that feels right. The service may be traditional, contemporary, spiritual, non religious, intimate or a larger gathering. Every choice is made with care and with respect for your family, your beliefs and the wishes of the person who has died.

How I support your family

You do not need to arrive with everything planned. I will guide you through the decisions and help make the process feel manageable.

  • A thoughtful family meeting where you can share memories and important details
  • Guidance with the structure and flow of the funeral or memorial service
  • A carefully written eulogy that captures personality, relationships and life stories
  • Help choosing readings, poems, music, rituals and moments of reflection
  • Support for family members or friends who would like to speak
  • Clear communication with your funeral director and other service providers
  • Warm and professional delivery of the ceremony on the day
  • A copy of the completed ceremony for your family to keep

Eulogy writing and life story support

A eulogy is more than a list of dates and achievements. It is the story of a person and the difference they made in the lives of others. I listen for the small details that reveal character, such as familiar sayings, treasured routines, friendships, passions and moments that still make people smile.

I can write and deliver the complete eulogy, edit a draft prepared by your family, or support several speakers so their contributions work together naturally. My aim is to make the person feel present in the room through stories that are accurate, respectful and recognisable.

Funerals, memorials and celebrations of life across Melbourne

I conduct funeral services, memorial services, celebrations of life, graveside services, ash interment ceremonies and private family farewells across Melbourne and wider Victoria. I can work in funeral chapels, cemeteries, memorial parks, private homes, gardens, community venues and other places that hold meaning for your family.

I regularly collaborate with funeral directors, venues, musicians, florists, photographers and other trusted suppliers. This helps the service feel coordinated and allows your family to focus on being together.

What happens when you contact me

Our first conversation is gentle and practical. I will ask about the service, the timing, the location and what support you need. If I am available, we will arrange a family meeting by phone, video call or in person.

During that meeting, you can tell me about your loved one in your own way. I will guide the conversation with thoughtful questions and take detailed notes. I then prepare the ceremony and eulogy, consult with you about important details and make changes until the service feels right.

Why families choose Charis White

Families choose me because they want a celebrant who combines genuine warmth with careful preparation. I understand that grief can affect concentration, energy and decision making. My role is to listen, organise the details, offer clear choices and help you feel supported from the first conversation through to the service.

My ceremonies are personal and story focused. They honour the full life of the person who has died while creating space for grief, gratitude, laughter, love and connection.

Frequently asked questions

Can you write the eulogy for us?
Yes. I can write the complete eulogy after speaking with family and friends. I can also edit an existing draft or help several speakers prepare their tributes.

Can the service be non religious?
Yes. I create secular, spiritual, religious and blended services. The language, readings and rituals will reflect your family and the beliefs of your loved one.

Can family members take part?
Yes. Family and friends can share memories, read a poem, choose music, light candles or take part in another meaningful ritual. I will support each person and help the contributions flow naturally.

Do you conduct memorials after a cremation?
Yes. A memorial or celebration of life can be held days, weeks or months later. This can give family and friends more time to gather and plan a deeply personal tribute.

Which areas do you serve?
I serve families throughout metropolitan Melbourne and can travel across Victoria by arrangement. Contact me with the location and date so I can confirm availability.

Thank you for your superior delivery of Andrew's memorial.

Thank you for your superior delivery of Andrew’s memorial.
As mentioned I have been to services that have been cold and removed and I desperately did not want that for Andy or our family and friends! I was so wrong and very happy (although desperately sad) with the way that you delivered the service and the difference you made for all those watching and in attendance. We although heartbroken were very pleased with the send off we had for him as the final act we could do for him.
You are the best and if I ever need those services again or had anyone in need I would certainly highly recommend you are as you are simply the best!

Charis White, is not only a celebrant, but also a wonderful human being.

Charis was able to support us through the most challenging of times. Charis, we feel so fortunate that you helped us through our grieving: you genuinely listed to us, heard what we needed at the most difficult of times, provided a great structure, and produced a masterful service that was just right. Thank you again for your support and we hope you can help many others in the future.

“Charis did our mums funeral. She has got to be the most genuine, loving and supporting person I have come across. From our first phone call, I felt a connection with her. The FaceTime mt and planning went perfectly. She was always available the following days if we had any questions or changes to our service. On the day she was brilliant. Comforting to all my family. And the services ran just as she said it would. Many guest commented on what a fantastic job she did. Would recommend her to everyone I know. Thank you Charis for absolutely everything x”

“Exceptional in every way, we are so grateful to have had Charis not only for her service but for her tremendous support.
From the very first conversation, Charis was professional, caring, and approachable. She guided us through a difficult time with such grace and warmth that we immediately felt we were in safe hands.
At the service itself, she delivered a truly heart-warming eulogy that captured our loved one’s spirit perfectly. But it was the poem she chose and read that touched everyone in the room – there wasn’t a dry eye, yet it left us all feeling comforted and connected.
Charis did so much more than lead a funeral. She held space for our grief, answered every question with patience, and went above and beyond to make a heartbreaking day as beautiful and meaningful as it could be. If you are looking for a celebrant who blends genuine kindness with complete professionalism, look no further. We cannot recommend her highly enough.”

“Thank goodness we ended up with you’ were my words to Charis.
My father and I were a bit lost when his wife passed away. We wanted to fulfil her wishes and place her ashes on our property with her favorite horse. Charis made this possible. She guided us along the way.
She was compassionate and cheerful at the same time. We felt safe and at easy with her from the first minute. The eulogy Charis wrote was perfect and her delivery was calming and bright with pauses to reflect on the person.
Charis really took the time to get to know us and understand what we were after.
The day after the service my father asked ‘Have you thanked Charis yet? Please pass on that I just loved her!’

“I just wanted to say thank you. I attended my great nieces funeral today – baby Rumi 🌈 The celebrant was amazing – she knew everything about Rumis journey and her amazing parents Kim and Tom.
It was sensitive, supportive and loving funeral and an absolutely beautiful way to send Rumi onto her next journey. Again thank you”

“Death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it. It is the gentle release of the soul, a peaceful journey into the next great adventure, where love and memories continue to flourish forever.”
