How long have you been a celebrant and why did you choose this profession? Written by Charis White Celebrant, Melbourne based celebrant

I have been a celebrant for eight years. I decided to go back to school when my son was 6 months old. You see, when I got married, I loved the whole process and I wanted to get into the wedding industry. At the time there was a cap on the amount of celebrants in Victoria. The government lifted the cap and I decided to retrain.

I am a trained Opera Singer, who has sung with Victorian Opera and Opera Australia. Singing and performing have always been a part of my life. Celebrancy was just an extension of these performance skills.

During my time as a celebrant I have married 400 couples and have gained many new friends. It is the best job in the world and I feel very lucky to have found it. It is a privilege to share an insight into my couples lives and to be with them for one of their most special days.
